How to Play BLOCK/08

BLOCK/08 is a polyomino puzzle: a glowing map appears on an electronic light board, and your job is to complete it exactly with the movable blocks in your tray. Blocks can be rotated and flipped, nothing may overlap, and nothing may spill outside the lights. Some puzzles also begin with bolted lights or a whole colored block that is already fixed as solved work. When every required cell is filled, the board clears. This page covers the rules, all four game modes, the three Hint tiers, optional Mastery and the real first-48 learning curve.

The basics

  1. Read the map. Uncovered lights show the space your tray blocks must fill. A bolted light is already filled and blocks every piece; a colored fixed block is already part of the solution.
  2. Pick a block from the tray on the right (or the bottom bar on phones).
  3. Turn it. Press R to rotate 90Β°, F to flip. On touch screens use the Rotate and Flip buttons.
  4. Place it. Drag the block onto the board; a live preview shows green for a legal spot and red for an illegal one. You can also select a block and simply tap its landing cell.
  5. Recover without losing progress. Placed a block badly? Drag it elsewhere, press Z to undo, use β€œTake back”, or clear the whole board. Any valid clear still unlocks the next level; these recovery actions only matter for the optional Mastery mark.

The four modes

Stars, streaks and achievements

Every Classic and Daily clear is rated out of three stars. A clear within its par time earns three stars; a slower clear earns two. Observe keeps that time-based result but removes the speed bonus and optional Mastery. Orient caps the clear at two stars; Place and Assisted layouts cap it at one. Completion itself always advances Classic progress and is the only requirement for a Daily streak. Stars are saved per versioned puzzle, and the map lets you replay any lit bulb.

On canonical Classic levels 1–48, β—† marks optional Mastery: finish without Hint or Clear, use no more than one Undo, and stay within that puzzle's reference number of rotations and flips. The game also records your best active solve time. Mastery is recognition only; it grants no power and never gates the next level.

Frequently asked questions

Is BLOCK/08 free to play?
Yes: free, in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create.
Do I need an account to save progress?
No. Progress, stars, streaks and achievements are saved automatically in your browser on your device. See the privacy policy for details.
What happens if I miss a Daily?
Your streak resets to zero, but the flame starts again with your very next Daily clear.
Can I replay old levels?
Yes. Open the level map (β–¦), browse chapters, and tap any lit bulb to improve stars, active time or β—† Mastery.
Does the game work on phones?
Yes. The block tray docks to the bottom of the screen, and while dragging, the preview floats above your finger so it never hides the landing spot.
