About BLOCK/08

BLOCK/08 is a light-puzzle machine that lives in your browser. A map of glowing cells appears on an electronic board; you rotate, flip and place polyomino blocks until every light is covered. It is a spatial-reasoning workout dressed up as a toy, and it is free.

What makes it different

Why spatial puzzles?

Fitting irregular shapes into a fixed region is one of the oldest exercises in recreational mathematics; pentomino tilings have been studied since the 1950s and still appear in classrooms today. Puzzles of this family train mental rotation, planning and decomposition: you learn to see a large messy region as a set of smaller solvable ones. BLOCK/08 keeps that core intact and wraps it in short sessions, gentle feedback and a difficulty curve that respects your time. Five minutes with your coffee is a complete session; so is an hour of chasing three stars.

The machine aesthetic

The look of BLOCK/08 borrows from electronic toys of the 1980s: a deep teal cabinet, cream keys with a satisfying press, a dark sensor board where each covered cell lights up with a rising musical note. Clearing a board plays a small light show. The goal is for every interaction to feel physical, as if you were snapping real tiles onto a real board that happens to glow.

Roadmap

BLOCK/08 is in active development. Planned next: a progress transfer code so you can move your save between devices, more chapters and mechanics beyond level 400, and additional puzzle games on this site sharing the same no-install philosophy.
